One morning, as I was working in my basement home office, I heard a scratching
at my window. When I have looked before, it's been a bird or a leaf blowing around...but this time it was the tiniest
little bunny sitting on my window ledge. I tried to be as still as possible so I wouldn't scare it off. From the looks
of it, it was probably 5-6 weeks old....just weaned from it's mom. The little thing was just sitting there on the ledge
wiggling it's nose. How ADORABLE!!!! What a neat experience. It was time for me to go to work, but all I thought about
that day was the cute little bunny...and how I hoped it would choose my backyard to be it's home.
After work, I went outside to see if it happened to stick around. I looked
everywhere....no rabbit. Oh well, it was just neat to get to see the cute little thing that one time. I went and got my pruners
and started pruning and weeding. All of the sudden, there was a flash that zoomed out from under my hostas...I kept looking
and tip toeing around to see what it was. Finally...a little baby wren popped out from under a shrub! It was SO tiny! I walked
the other way, so I didn't scare it anymore.
As I was working
in another part of the yard...ZING...another brown flash came out from another plant. This time, I caught a glance of a little
white powder puff tail. The little bunny was sticking around! And boy was it fast!

Over the next few days, I would walk around the yard and see it every now and
then. I also noticed several spots where it had nested or laid. Every day, I would go out into the yard to work or look at
my flowers. One hot afternoon, I noticed the bunny lying on it's side underneath my hostas and Japanese maple. It startle
me, until I saw the bunny move a bit. Poor thing was so hot. I made sure to fill all my ground water bins as well as my bird
baths every day.
Well, it's been almost 3 months now, and the
little bunny is still with us. It keeps a nest under some day lilly leaves that have fallen over. It has started a new spot
under my tree peony. It also likes to hide under my water fountain or under the hosta leaves to stay cool.
Everyday I look forward to seeing it in the backyard, but always have this dreaded feeling until I
find it safe. I wonder if it is a boy or girl...and if it will bring it's babies around sometime. And everyday, I think
God for the little bunny and all the joy it has brought me. I am truly blessed that this creature has chosen my backyard habitat
to call it's home.
