Why Build a Backyard Habitat?

1. To make and/or restore wildlife habitats- Many species
of wildlife are losing their homes to urban sprawl or natural disasters like floods, tornadoes or earthquakes. Human activity,
such as population growth, agriculture and land development practices, is causing a more significant part to this loss.
2. To protect wildlife- By making a backyard habitat, you are actually helping restore a small
piece of the ecosystem.
3. To teach children- Imagine children who do not know what a bird sounds like, the fluttering of a butterfly or glow of a firefly.
Children also carry on our legacy, and will only care for the things that they are taught.
4. To watch
wildlife- What can I say here? It is very relaxing to sit back on your porch and watch the squirrels chase each other,
or listen to the sound of an oriole at a nearby feeder, or watch the caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies.
5. To add curb appeal- By adding wonderful flowers, shrubs and trees, you are also increasing the curb
appeal of your house, and possibly the value.
6. Because it is FUN!
